How licensing works

Project Commander is licensed through the Atlassian Marketplace as a whole-app subscription. There are no per-feature gates or internal tiers — your Jira site either has active access (subscription or evaluation) and the entire app is available, or access has lapsed and the entire app is locked. Licensing is handled by Atlassian, so there is no separate sign-up or license key inside Project Commander.

Licensing applies only to the app installed in Jira from the Marketplace. The web app at projectcommander.app/app and demo mode always treat access as active and never show the lock.

During the public beta

While Project Commander is in its free public beta, licensing is dormant — licensing is not switched on for the app, so it behaves as if access is always active: nothing is ever locked and no payment, license key, or evaluation clock applies. The lock described below only becomes active once licensing is switched on at general availability. If the app cannot read its licence status at all, it also treats access as active rather than locking you out.

The Issue Checker

The Issue Checker for Jira is a separate app with its own Marketplace listing and is paid from the start, so licensing is already switched on for it and it can be installed only through that listing. The Issue Checker does not show a lock screen of its own; the lock described below is Project Commander's alone.

Evaluation and subscription

Once licensing is enabled, the standard Atlassian model applies:

• A 30-day evaluation unlocks the full app for assessment.
• After the evaluation, a paid subscription — billed through the Atlassian Marketplace and priced by user tier — keeps access active.
• A Jira site admin starts or manages the subscription from Manage apps.

When access ends

If the evaluation period ends or a paid subscription lapses, the whole planning UI is replaced by a full-screen lock headed Your Project Commander access has ended, which reads: Your trial or subscription is no longer active. Start a subscription to keep planning, monitoring, and forecasting your delivery. Your saved data is preserved and returns as soon as the subscription is active.

A Subscribe to continue button links to the Marketplace listing, and a note beneath it reads A Jira site admin can start the subscription from Manage apps. No tab is reachable while access is locked.

What is preserved

• Your saved app data — risks, action items, retros, team capacity, allocations, governance, portfolio data, alert dismissals, and preferences — is not deleted when access ends. It stays in the app's Atlassian Forge storage and returns intact the moment a subscription is active again.
• Uninstalling the app is a separate action and does remove that data (see the Privacy & security section of the listing).
